Ledger Live Backup & Security: Protecting Your Recovery Phrase
Connect your Ledger hardware wallet to the Ledger Live app and manage Bitcoin, Ethereum, and hundreds of other assets in one secure, easy‑to‑use dashboard.
Ledger Live is the official app for your Ledger hardware wallet. In just a few steps, you can log in, see your entire portfolio, send and receive crypto, and explore Web3 — all while your private keys stay locked inside your Ledger device
What Does Ledger Live Backup Really Mean?
In the Ledger ecosystem, ledger live backup is all about your 24‑word recovery phrase.
• Your private keys are stored inside your Ledger Hardware wallet.
• The Ledger Live app is just the interface that shows and manages your accounts.
• Your 24‑word phrase can recreate your wallet on a new device if something happens to your current one.
So your real backup is:
• Writing down the recovery phrase clearly
• Storing it offline in a secure location
• Keeping it away from cameras, cloud storage, and anyone you don’t fully trust
Never share this phrase with anyone. No Ledger Live Support agent or website will ever ask you to type it into a form or send it through chat.

Restoring Your Wallet With Ledger Live
If you’ve lost or damaged your device, but still have your recovery phrase, you can restore everything.
1. Buy a new Ledger Hardware wallet from an official source.
2. During setup, choose Restore from recovery phrase.
3. Enter your 24 words on the device only — never on your computer or phone.
4. Install the Ledger Live app on your computer if it’s not already installed.
5. Connect the restored device and re‑add your accounts in Ledger Live.
Once Ledger Live synchronizes with the blockchain, your balances and transactions will show up again.
